Where a first in-person lesson should happen

The rule is not about whether you trust the tutor. It is about who else can see the room.

Three places that work

A library study room with a glass door. A kitchen table with somebody else in the house. A café with a queue in it. All three are quiet enough to work in and none of them is private.

One that does not

A closed bedroom, and any closed room in an empty house. Not because anything is likely, but because nothing about it is observable, and observability is the entire mechanism.

It is our rule, not the family's

Where an in-person lesson may happen is set by the site rather than agreed between two people. That means no parent has to be the one who asks, and no tutor has to be the one who is asked.

The first three are the ones

After a term everybody knows each other and this reads as fussy. It is written for the first three lessons, which is exactly when nobody knows anybody.
